While the idea seems rather simple, millions of people have used the Pomodoro Technique to boost productivity since the late 1980’s when Francesco Cirillo developed it. Our handy checklist takes the guesswork out of any tomato timing and reviews everything you need to do and when to do it. There are also keyboard shortcuts available to initiate the pomodoro timer, a pause, or a break so that the process is completely seamless. When time is up, it sounds an alert with a tone and volume of the user’s choice plus a desktop notification. As the timer runs it shows the user the countdown on his or her Internet browser tab so that it is not even necessary be looking directly at the web page to know how much time is left. Expanded clay pebbles: 4 to 8 times a day (every 2 to 4 hours) Coconut coir: 3 to 5 times a day (every 3 to 5 hours) Rockwool: 1 to 5 times a day (once a day to every 3 hours) Remember that these are guidelines only feel free to flood and drain outside these ranges. When four “pomodoros,” or 25-minute cycles, have been completed, there is a long break. You don’t need to flood in the lights off period. The number one app on the list, Focus Keeper, is also the most true to the original concept of the pomodoro timer. It is designed so that a person completes 25 minutes of focused work on a task. Essentially, it is a timer set for 25-minute chunks with short (5-minute) and long (10-minute) breaks. For example, a first then board can be used to help a student transition from one activity to the next or a reward chart can be used to reinforce positive behaviors. It is possible to "pause" driving, and then later "resume" following the leader's trail, using the wait/resume action (RIGHT CTRL + H). If no "trail crumbs" can be found, or the vehicle already is followed by another, a warning will appear and you will have to either move a little bit further towards/back, or change to follow another vehicle. This time around you play a commander in the Soviet Red Army as you face a series of missions that range from the defence of Stalingrad to the final advance on Berlin. The game shares the same World War II setting as the original Company Of Heroes, but shifts its focus away from the US troops – who, as we all know, won WWII all by themselves – and heads towards the Eastern Front. It’s a couple of years since Company Of Heroes 2 was released on the PC, but we’ve not had many good strategy games to play with on the Mac recently so this Mac version will be welcomed by many strategy fans. Some worlds are quite Earth-like, with large land masses and continents, while others may consist of endless dry deserts, or small groups of islands scattered across a watery ocean world. And, of course, your new home world will present its own challenges. The colonists on each ship can vary too, including different combinations of scientists, artists, refugees and wealthy aristocrats, with each group providing different benefits for your new colony. These sponsors provide different advantages, such as super-efficient Pan-Asian workers, or the military strength of Brasilia. Each ship has a ‘sponsor’, which is the national group that built the ship, such as the Pan-Asian Cooperative, Brasilia or the African Union. The Earth is a mess, so a group of colony ships are launched into space in order to find a new home for the human race. The previous games in the Civilization series have all followed the same basic pattern, putting you in control of a group of primitive settlers who fight and trade their way to world domination before eventually developing rocket ships and advanced technologies that allow them to reach for the stars.īeyond Earth, as its name implies, takes the next logical step. System requirements: Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), 2.2GHz Intel processor, GeForce 640M or Radeon HD 5750 The game’s slick 3D graphics need a decent graphics card, though, so make sure to check out the recommended system requirements before buying.Ĭompany: Firaxis Where to buy: Steam (£29.99/$39.99), However, the main single-player campaign provides plenty of tactical challenges for strategy fans, and there’s an online Skirmish mode available that offers PvP combat for both teams and individual players. These regular changes of viewpoint can be a bit disconcerting at first, and the methodical approach to combat can be a bit frustrating if you just want to let rip with your giant mech and smush your enemies into little blots on the landscape. Your mech doesn’t look particularly big or impressive in this mode, but once you’ve issued your commands the game switches into a more close-up view where you see your mech stomping – or dramatically jumping – towards your target and then firing your weapons. Like most strategy games, BattleTech gives you an overhead view of the terrain – depicted in detailed 3D graphics – and allows you to select your location or target with a simple click of the mouse. So finding a fixed solution to all problems is more difficult and can only be flexible. So whenever those people flow station began to appear in circles, it is best to pause the game, readjust the route, upgrade the hub, or temporarily move two cars to emergency. "Mini Metro" although mini but set very close to reality, as the population increases, each site queuing more and more, when the passengers wait too long (and reach a certain size of the number of people) the game It failed. Although it looks like getting the route is the best option, in fact the car is a more cost-effective option and the number of multi-river map tunnels is guaranteed. You can choose to receive one of them, and this choice will play a key role in the game. There is also a strategic game in the acquisition and use of objects, each achievement of a system will give a small amount of the front, car or tunnel. Even you can cancel a circuit re-planning. When you get bogged down with more and more abrupt occult sites, there's new demand: shorter, more efficient routes, and more coverage as you can. But the passenger is God, bite the bullet and keep stretching the line. With more and more sites and longer and longer lines, new sites are constantly appearing on the map, and sometimes even where they are in special horns. How to play We can easily play to the extent of carrying dozens of people, but very difficult and overwhelming come. Its gameplay is not complicated, as long as the metro station is connected so that every passenger at each station can go to their destination. Even if the beginning of a few fiddle some scratching their head: how to play? Typically thought of as a game for advanced to expert players, Spider Solitaire (4 Suits) uses two decks of cards (104 cards) made up of 2 sets of Hearts, 2 sets of Diamonds, 2 sets of Spades, and 2 sets of Clubs.
Otherwise, you could end up with bad data, conflicting analytics, or potential security risks.Extract, transform, and load (ETL) improves business intelligence and analytics by making the process more reliable, accurate, detailed, and efficient. A staging or landing area for data currently being processed should not be accessible by data consumers. Often, the use of interim staging tables can improve the performance and reduce the complexity of ETL processes. Embedding email notifications directly in ETL processes adds unnecessary complexity and potential failure points. In this post, I share some of the design patterns for handling bad data. When suspect data is discovered, there needs to be a system for cleansing or otherwise managing nonconforming rows of data. What happens when things go wrong? This post reviews design patterns around prevention and management of errors in ETL processes. How big should each ETL process be? In this post, I discuss the merits of properly sizing your ETL logic.Įrror Handling. ETL modularization helps avoid writing the same difficult code over and over, and reduces the total effort required to maintain the ETL architecture.ĮTL Atomicity. Creating reusable code structures is important in most development realms, and even more so in ETL processes. Understanding where data originated from, when it was loaded, and how it was transformed is essential for the integrity of the downstream data and the process that moves it there.ĮTL Modularity. A well-designed process will not only check for errors but also support auditing of row counts, financial amounts, and other metrics.ĭata Lineage. A load without errors is not necessarily a successful load. In this post, I share some of the essential concepts around logging ETL operations.Īuditing. Logging: A proper logging strategy is key to the success of any ETL architecture. Speed up your load processes and improve their accuracy by only loading what is new or changed. The What, Why, When, and How of Incremental Loads. What is ETL? For those new to ETL, this brief post is the first stop on the journey to best practices. In the coming weeks and months, I’ll be blogging about each of these in detail. However, for most ETL processes, the best practices detailed below should be considered central to the architecture.īelow I’ve listed some of the essentials that are key to most any ETL implementation. Even for concepts that seem fundamental to the process (such as logging), there will certainly be edge cases that negate the need for one or more of these. I’m careful not to designate these best practices as hard-and-fast rules. So whether you’re using SSIS, Informatica, Talend, good old-fashioned T-SQL, or some other tool, these patterns of ETL best practices will still apply. However, the design patterns below are applicable to processes run on any architecture using most any ETL tool. Most of the examples I flesh out are shown using SQL Server Integration Services. Following these best practices will result in load processes with the following characteristics: Over the course of 10+ years I’ve spent moving and transforming data, I’ve found a score of general ETL best practices that fit well for most every load scenario. Establishing a set of ETL best practices will make these processes more robust and consistent. Each step the in the ETL process – getting data from various sources, reshaping it, applying business rules, loading to the appropriate destinations, and validating the results – is an essential cog in the machinery of keeping the right data flowing. Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes are the centerpieces in every organization’s data management strategy. Yet it has to be done underground, because God forbid making your code public, because daddy Gameforge is going to knock on your door like it's 1977. The topic of porting Metin2's server to Linux has come up numerous times here. Why can't we have some sort of plugin system so that we end this agony? Just look at this forum, it's full of hotfixes, and whenever an actual feature release comes up, you have to find and replace tons of stuff and you don't even know if it will break any other system you have installed. To me, working on the Metin2 server has become like one of those relationships in which you don't really like your partner, you fight all the time, yet you still stay together because you feel attached to them. So we've got an old, half-baked and out-of-spec server on our hands. It's just that it's way, way easier to code for Linux. There's nothing wrong with FreeBSD nowadays either. In my country's 1977, we couldn't even talk about how dumb our leaders were without risking being beaten by the police, yet others were making huge technological advances. But the standard was still to use the tried and battle-tested, UNIX-certified BSD, which hails from 1977. Sure, some companies saw its potential and became early adopters. At the time when they decided upon the architecture, Linux was nothing more than a toy, a fun gimmick like Docker and Kubernetes are today. Sure, you could have used Linux in production environments, but you would have been regarded a maniac if you did. The final nail in Metin2's coffin is BSD. They never fixed their silly mistakes, or did so very, very late (remember the /dice bug?). The terrible part is that we can see their progress in acquiring this skill. I don't say it's easy to code such a dinosaur, but if you pay attention to the coding style and mistakes, you can actually see how YMIR devs improved over time. Other than the dated architecture, the other problem I have with the Metin2 server is the code itself. Kudos to C++, in a world where JavaScript breaks backwards compatibility whenever wind changes direction. It's quite awesome that we actually can run this code quasi-reliably. But I'll bet you a coffee that libthecore hasn't changed much since the initial version. To give credit where credit is due, parts of it were updated with time. That's why nowadays we have to fiddle around with peer-to-peer TCP/IP configuration on all the Metin2 server cores. One for the database cache, one for authentication, and a couple more for the maps (depending how far down you could reach in your pockets - we didn't have $5 DigitalOcean or AWS containers back then, servers were expensive). Initially, Metin2 was intended to run each core on their own server. My point is that in 2004 we didn't even have multi-core CPUs yet! The only way you could do multi-threading was by physically chucking as many CPUs onto a motherboard as you physically could. Ten years! I was still playing Club Penguin at the time, I mean that's how I've heard about the game in the first place - from an ad on Club Penguin's page! And if I sit down and think of it, the game was 6 years old 10 years ago! I'm really curious, what other 16-year-old pieces of software do you guys use? If you do, how do you manage to use that piece of software nowadays? I know I've struggled a fair share to get Borland C++ 4.52 to run reliably in DOSBox. I think it's been almost 10 years since I first opened Metin2. Should you be utterly disgusted at what I'm saying, a vomit bag is located in the seat in front of you.
